In this year's "Times Higher Education" (THE) -Ranking of young universities (universities under 50 years), the University of Potsdam again took one of the top places. On place 24 amongst a total of 350 universities from 60 countries, Brandenburg's largest university is in the top 25 and around the same position as the University of Antwerp and the University of South Australia. In German comparison, it even took fourth place and follows the universities of Duisburg-Essen, Passau and Bielefeld.
A total of five pillars are evaluated in the THE ranking: teaching, research strength, citations, knowledge transfer and international reputation. The reputation factor is, however, given a lower weighting in the ranking of "young" universities, since here particularly long-established institutions would benefit. The "Young University Ranking" exists since 2012 in order to map the achievements of emerging universities in international comparison more adequately, and since 2017 the University of Potsdam has been participating actively and always very successfully in the ranking. Overall, THE rankings, along with the Academic World University Ranking (AWUR) and the QS World University Ranking, are among the most significant rankings worldwide.
